Tootal is one of Englands oldest brands dating back to 1799 and was originally founded in Manchester by textile merchant Robert Gardner in 1799. The Tootal family became involved in the business in 1842 and after several name changes registered the name Tootal Broadhurst Lee Co Ltd in 1888.
Tootals scarves in paisley and polka dots have become world renown first becoming a key fashion accessory during World War 2 and are associated with the RAF look, as a result of this the scarves enjoyed a revival during the 1960s were they were worn by the Mod fraternity, for whom it still remains an iconic fashion label to this day. During the 1990s Britpop era the scarves were to have another resurrection by the likes of Peter Weller, Liam Gallagher and Robbie Williams.

The Barbican in Scarborough Hosts Live Music Over Easter Weekend
With the National Scooter Rally planning to visit to Scarborough over the Easter weekend, the Barbican on St Nicholas Street is promising a warm welcome and a weekend packed with entertainment.
Jess Fairman, assistant manager at the Barbican (formerly the Barracuda Bar) explains: “It’s always a real spectacle when the Scooter enthusiasts come to Scarborough with their amazing classic and custom made scooters. There’s a real feeling of celebration so we’d thought we’d get involved by putting on some great entertainment that will appeal to the enthusiasts as well as our regular customers.
“On Good Friday (29th March) we’ve organised a band called Paisley Road to take to the stage and they’ll be playing from 8pm. Paisley Road was formed by Howie (formerly leader of Howie & the Cubans) when he decided to transform his soulful acoustic set by recruiting a full time backing band, dusting down his beloved electric guitar. Paisley Road offers a grooving set of mod classics plus reinterpretations of popular hits from the present day and years gone by.
“Then, on Saturday 30th March we’ve booked All Mod Cons who are a Jam tribute band. They’ll be bringing back feelings of nostalgia and taking customers back to a time when Paul Weller was just a fresh faced boy! Both bands are well known amongst the scooter community and are guaranteed to make it a weekend to remember for everyone who visits the pub over the Easter holidays.”
The Barbican is also offering scooter clubs coming to the Scooter Rally a free bacon sandwich for groups of six people or more between 9am to midday, if they use the pub as a meeting point. Call The Barbican on 01723 366 433 to book a table.
Piaggio Ape World Championships 2013
If you are 16 or over and fancy becoming a motorsport ‘World Champion’ then this must be one of the most enjoyable ways to do it, and you don’t even need to travel any further than Hertfordshire to do so. This is a first for the UK, and will be an exciting, fun racing motorsport around the racing track at the Rye House circuit.
The iconic Piaggio Ape has been a low-cost form of transport for over 60 years, and its quirky design and friendly nature has now been tuned into the racing vehicle it was never expected to be, courtesy of scooter-warmer-uppers Malossi.
The championship 2 hour test will be on Sunday 21st April, and the races will begin on Sunday 9th June - consisting of four 2 hour races over summer/autumn.
Check out http://www.rye-house.co.uk/ for more information.
For newbies to the Ape, it was designed around the Vespa in 1948 - more information here.
